Lagos
Lagos is a town situated in the mouth of Bensafrim river and in the coast of Atlantic ocean in the region of Algarve, the most beautiful and tourist area in the south of Portugal. The town is not really huge; it has got a population of 22.000 habitants. However, this number increases in the summer months, due to the tourist visits from people coming around the world.
We have chosen this town because we agree that it has an special and magical ambient that you can feel when you're walking through its streets. The sea's smell and old coast buildings have a relaxing effect on you that it's hard difficult to find in any other cities in the world.
History
Lagos was the first city in Europe that had a slave market.
Lagos was devastated after de Lisbon earthquake of 1755. The city took a long time to recover.
After World War II and before the end of the twentieth century saw a gradual reduction of its industrial capacity and a significant increase in tourism, becoming the main economic activity of the municipality.
Iglesia de Santo António
The church of Santo António is considered one of the most beautiful churches in the country. The decoration is Baroque and the walls are covered with panels of tiles in blue
and white.
Fuerte Ponta da Bandeira
This fort is located on the seafront near the harbor entrance. This fortress was built along the coast to avoid naval and pirate attacks. The fort offers a splendid view over the city, the beach and harbor.
Dona Ana Beach
Dona Ana Beach is one of the most famous because it is big and beautiful. This beach is surrounded by impressive rock formations. Dona Ana Beach also offers an absolute tranquility to disconnect.
